HOW TO UNDERSTAND #blacklivesmatter
Look over at your children. Imagine them being mercilessly strangled with a man’s knee on their neck, or shot in the back multiple times in the street, because of their skin - their beautiful, delicious smelling, silky skin that you’ve washed, and caressed, and lotioned, and sniffed with sweet joy, since their birth. Imagine them begging for you and uttering “momma” as they die inhumanly and heinously by the hands of people who are there to “protect” them. It’s horrifying. You would pray and ask any of the Gods to protect them. So you understand how it feels.
And if it were YOUR child you were watching suffocate ruthlessly, you can imagine losing your shit, and kicking and screaming and tearing shit up, and burning shit down, cities down, if you had to. Because the pain and anguish of even imagining it, is too much.
Now imagine it happening to many mothers, for hundreds of years. And it’s not stopping. And the murderers are free to walk the streets, and to kill other sons and daughters. Can you imagine it? Can you imagine never getting angry? Can you imagine people telling you - “there’s really a right way to act even though we just killed your son, and even though we’ll keep killing your children, you should act appropriately”... If you just can’t imagine that, if that sounds absolutely incredulous, then you can completely and unequivocally understand the uprising of the community affected by the #georgefloyd murder and the people wanting #justiceforgeorgefloyd

And you can undoubtedly understand what black people have been experiencing and why #blacklivesmatter because to you, YOUR children’s lives matter. YOUR family’s life matters...and you would NEVER think other people’s children don’t matter to them as much as yours do to you...right?
For crystal clarity: The “I will never understand but I stand with you.” Please NO. Because you can understand completely.
